Class Expectations
Welcome back students! I am so glad you are here; as we move through the school year I want to start with this idea of non-negotiables in the classroom. These are things that I won't tolerate happening in the classroom, that are strictly off limits. This isn't a punitive measure, or a "bad" thing, no I would argue it is necessary to the running of a safe classroom environment. I want everyone to feel that they are respected and belong in the classroom; I won't tolerate nastiness, insensitivity, or derision towards others.
#1 No offensive language or put downs used while addressing yourself or others.
#2 Be prepared and work to the best of your ability. This includes sleeping or just doing nothing. It doesn't help you as a student or young adult to be apathetic to learning.
#3 Listening to one another. This is important, you all to be valued and your input as well as your classmates' input is to be respected. We will be using something called "tracking" or following the speaker in the classroom this year. This is used to help you actively listen, something many people don't do well, but a skill we are going to work on developing.

CLASS RULES
We are going to develop our own class rules for each classroom. In the past I have used four general categories which can be fleshed out a bit, which we will do in each of our classes.
1. Be responsible
2. Respect each other and yourself
3. Be prepared
4. Work to the best of your ability

Bathroom Policy
Only one person out at a time (this includes students who wish to see the secretary),and he or she must take the bathroom pass and sign out and sign back in. Failure to do so will be seen as failure to follow the rules. You can only leave the classroom once a period, unless of course it is an emergency. Use your passes wisely!

Phone Policy
I know you love your phones, I love mine too, and you can use them to listen to music when I say that is okay. If someone is talking, or I am talking, your ear buds need to be out, you need to be off the internet, and no texting. I will warn you once and then I will ask for the phone for the remainder of the day. If you don't want to give up your phone, I will ask you to take it upstairs and give it to the secretary. If it happens a second time in a week, the office will hold it for the remainder of the day. Please don't let it happen a third time, please.....

Seating Assignments
I placed all classes in seating assignments to help you focus and pay attention. I will change the seating assignments when necessary. Please sit in your assigned seat; if you choose not to, that is your choice but is insubordination and I will refer you upstairs.
