Dear Parents:
My name is Sam O'Brien and I am returning for my tenth year at Rainshadow Community Charter High School. Rainshadow has been a second home to me over the years, and I am a proud member of the school's leadership team as we move forward. I teach Government, junior level English, and Nevada History as my Interdisciplinary class, or ID. Every teacher has one of these classes, and although it counts for an elective, it is usually an emphasis or passion of that particular teacher. I teach Nevada History, and we take several field trips in the fall, exploring the natural region that the Reno Tahoe area has to offer. I will be entering the National Board Certification Process this year in Social Studies and I will be sending home a written waiver for video recording for your student in the classroom. The National Board Certification Process is a rigorous one and involves usually an additional 300-400 hours of planning in the classroom, but teachers in the program exit stronger and more advanced in their craft. I look forward to becoming the best possible teacher I can for your student!
This year should be rigorous, and I expect students to work hard, but we will also have fun while learning! My door is always open and I will make it a priority to open channels of communication between students, parents, and myself. We are all involved in this process of education. You can contact me at my email, [email protected], or the school's office at 775-322-5566.
